When I Met the Man on the Pedestal
Larry Cook
when I met the man on the pedestal
the minute before the fall
I told him I wasn't prepared for this
he said "well just don't you get caught"
and then I told him exactly what I had in mind
he said "then you gotta be strong"
his blind eye stared at my voice in the air
and I knew that it had to be done
when I met the man on the pedestal
feeling sorry for him
for he stood there so tall in his uniform and all
and I didn't know where to begin
so I pushed him a little and then I hit with my fist
I was looking around for a rope
his triumphant gesture it seemed to suggest
"you little man, I don't think you can cope"
now the tallest of trees are bound to fall
just look at them swaying in the wind
but when I met the man on the pedestal
I didn't know where to begin
when I met the man on the pedestal
a crowd was gathering round us
wondering what I was doing
I truly created some fuzz
and then they all said "hey man, can we lend you a hand"
and I was only a face in the crowd
and before I could think, before I could blink
the statue it fell to the ground
the statue it crashed to the ground
now the tallest of trees are bound to fall
as time will weaken the strong
but when I met the man on the pedestal
he said "I wonder what took you so long"
