Skyscraper Triptych
A F Harrold
Er, ladies and gentlemen this poem examines some of the links between er, twentieth century art
And the construction building business.
It's called Skyscraper Triptych
If René Magritte attempted the feat
Of building his own skyscraper
He'd cover the thing from floor to ceiling
With a swathe of cloud-coloured wallpaper
Salvador Dali would look a right charlie
When his skyscraper's finally built
'Cos one side extends and it melts and it bends
And is held in the air by a stilt
Pablo Picasso in downtown El Paso
Hands in his skyscraper plans
And the architect looks through Picasso's sketch books
And says cubism's really quite apt art form for this situation isn't it?
