Being English
A F Harrold
Being English.
Being English
I feel slightly embarrassed
To find that I've had a feeling
And then the fact that feeling embarrassed
Is tantamount to an emotion itself
Leaves me even more embarrassed
I'd almost rather meet a vicar
Than admit an emotion
Wobble a lip
Feel an emptiness open in my heart
And so
I'm locked into an infinite regress of feeling embarrassed at feeling embarrassed at feeling embarrassed
At feeling anything at all
Sometimes it seems as if there's only one way out
Of this weak English loop of emotion
A way out we have in common
With the very proud Japanese
I wish someone would make me a nice cup of tea
